As personal goals take precedence over LP, PDP, and NNPP merger negotiations, the focus are on Obi, Atiku, and Kwankwaso.
Ahead of the general election in 2027, political analysts forecast an increase in the pace of political activity as Nigerians join the rest of the globe in ringing in the New Year.
The performance of the three major opposition parties and its candidates stood out, according to the results of the 2023 presidential election, which was won by Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
They are Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In an attempt to unseat Tinubu in 2027, opposition leaders reportedly started conversations after perhaps learning from their collective setback.
Salihu Lukman, a former APC National Vice Chairman (North-West) and an ally of former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed El-Rufa’i, attested to this.
Lukman gave a speech about the topic on New Year’s Day.
“It must be acknowledged that the majority of Nigerian politicians are not inclined to competitive political culture, even though opposition political leaders, including disenfranchised APC leaders, have begun negotiations to create alternative political platforms,” he said.
“The default mindset is about imposing and manipulating systems to fulfill personal aspirations, largely because most politicians are motivated by personal desires to run for office. This has to end.
“We must remind all of our political leaders that if they wish to show their altruism and a strong desire to save Nigeria, they should go beyond the vacuous claims of putting aside personal goals in favor of the new platform and instead dedicate themselves to allowing political competition as the foundation for
